Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios officially announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man! Sony Pictures will release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017. According to TIME, “Marvel fans will get to see Spider-Man fighting baddies right alongside Captain America and Thor, just like in the comics. Marvel and Sony will co-produce upcoming individual Spider-Man films, but Sony will maintain ultimate creative rights over them.”
Although Spider-Man will be returning, Andrew Garfield will not be.
Does this open up the role for African-American actors, if Marvel depicts Spider-Man as Miles Morales during Peter Parkers “supposive” comic book death? Nonetheless, we will see a new actor in the role – hopefully along side Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, and Fantastic Four!
Many fans are on the fence about this news. A lot of people do not want more Spider-man movies, after the Tobey McGuire trilogy and Andrew Garfield two-picture. Other fans feel that Marvel will do Spider-Man justice, once and for all.
