Christmas movies are an excellent way for families to bond during the festive season. Movies are also a great way to immerse yourself into the festivities and with a selection of options accessible for you to pick from; you’ll be spoilt for choice.

For children, getting bundled up with mom, dad and siblings is not only exciting, but makes Christmas memorable year after year. Here is a list of popular Christmas movies to indulge in with family and friends:

It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)



This classic movie is perfect for people of all ages. The film is available in both color and black and white, and it is still as popular as the day it was released 60 years ago.

The film is directed by Frank Capra and features the story of a frustrated businessman known as George Bailey. Bailey has lived in Bedford Falls for a long time, and he wishes to have a different life of glamor and travel. Upon realizing that he may never live his dreams he contemplates suicide but is saved by a guardian angel known as Clarence.

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)


What would a Christmas movie be without a Grinch that tries to ruin Christmas? Thankfully, he eventually learns his lesson; that Christmas is the ideal holiday!

This animated film is sure to keep both the kids and the adults glued to their screen. In the movie, the villain (the Grinch) tries to mess up Christmas for everyone, but he is unsuccessful with each attempt because nothing can ruin Christmas- not even the Grinch!

A Christmas Story (1983)


The movie is set in the 40s where a young boy named Ralphie attempts to persuade the adults that a Red Ryder B.B. gun would make the perfect Christmas present for him that year. The adults try to convince Ralphie that the weapon is not a good idea because he might shoot his eye out with it.

Throughout, Ralphie enjoys boyish adventures with his friends, and their antics will leave you rolling on the floor laughing. The movie is side-splitting, and it remains one of the must watch movies of the holiday.

Home Alone (1990)



Kevin is left home fortuitously by his family as they head off to Paris for the Christmas festivities. Kevin, played by Macaulay Culkin is left to defend his home, so he comes up with a series of hilarious strategies designed to keep burglars at bay. His ingenious strategies work seamlessly, and 8 years old Kevin proves against all odds, that he can stay home alone.
