NY Film Meetup: A Dinner and a Movie NYC

Sometimes you just want to enjoy a good meal and watch a movie. And then talk the hell out of it afterwards. I want to meet anyone who is interested in catching a flick either during the week or over the weekend and want to talk about it over some food.  And don’t worry, you don’t have to prepay me or anyone else for tickets or to save a spot or answer a million questions to get in the group.  There’s enough stress in the world, why add to it?  We’re a group of movie-lovers who just want to hang and catch a flick with other laid-back and fun people. There won’t be any specific genre we’ll be sticking to, just any new, exciting, interesting, domestic and foreign, creative, hyped, talked-about or winning films!

This upcoming Sunday, January 26th, Dinner and a Movie NYC is hosting a night – “Philomena: Let’s check out what the Oscar buzz on this is about”!

To attend, check out the meetup page here!

  • Based on the 2009 investigative book by BBC correspondent Martin Sixsmith, The Lost Child of Philomena Lee, PHILOMENA focuses on the efforts of Philomena Lee, mother to a boy conceived out of wedlock – something her Irish-Catholic community didn’t have the highest opinion of – and given away for adoption in the United States. In following church doctrine, she was forced to sign a contract that wouldn’t allow for any sort of inquiry into the son’s whereabouts. After starting a family years later in England and, for the most part, moving on with her life, Lee meets Sixsmith, a BBC reporter with whom she decides to discover her long-lost son.

Movie Tickets and Meeting Up

  • Each member is responsible for purchasing his/her own ticket.  I will post a link to purchase the tickets as soon as they are available if you want to purchase them in advance.  Otherwise, you can buy them at the theater. Please note, popular movies may sell out if you don’t advance purchase.
  • Exact movie times and location will be released as soon as they are available. All theaters confirm movie times on Tuesdays so EXACT movie times will be posted Tuesday night or Wednesday. So please wait for the updates before asking questions on the conversation board.  All listed movie times before Tuesday are estimated times for when we may see the movie. This will be confirmed to an exact showtime on Tuesday night/Wednesday.
  • Please note that the meeting up time is not the time listed – which is the movie showtime.  Meeting up time is generally one hour before the showtime and the exact time and location will be posted.
  • Meetups are almost always in Manhattan with occasional exceptions on the weekends to downtown Brooklyn.
  • Also note, exact meetup locations within the theater will be posted. Once there, if you do not think you see anyone don’t worry, we will find you. We hold up signs, walk around, call out for members and post on the conversation board.  Unless you are plugging your ears and closing your eyes, there is no reason you won’t be able to find us unless you get there much later than the meet up time and don’t let us know about it.  After all, how the heck are we suppose to find you if you make it a point to not be there on time and then not let us know about it.  Anyway, we try very hard not to leave a member behind.
  • If you are running late – please post it on the conversation board and we will save you a seat.

Part of the moving-going experience is the discussion afterwards, made especially better with good food and drinks!  NYC has so much to offer in terms of food so we will try to find tasty and unique restaurants to try – it’s like two meetups in one~!  I am mindful of people’s budgets and in a City this big and diverse, delicious, affordable, unique and overall great restaurants are not hard to come by!
