If you ever find yourself in need of inspiration, or you want something to lift your mood, a good film can do just that. Gather family and friends to celebrate important stories and lessons shared through film any day of the week.
Here are some of best movies with a message:
The Pursuit of Happiness
Inspired by the story of Chris Gardner, the pursuit of happiness tells the story of a single father who is down on his luck. With an internship at a stockbroker training program, Gardner sees the opportunity to turn his life around, but it won’t come without a struggle and it leaves both Chris and his son living on the streets. However, Gardner ultimately triumphs, and he goes on to become a legendary Wall Street broker.
The film shows that with self-belief, determination and dogged persistence, the goals we set for ourselves are possible.
The Shawshank Redemption
Have you ever felt that you’re in a deep, dark tunnel? That’s exactly how Andy Dufresne feels in The Shawshank Redemption. Jailed for the murder of his wife that he didn’t commit, Dufresne spends decades in jail, endures beating after beating from inmates, but still he never gives up. Unlike all of the other men, Dufresne has a plan to free himself from prison, and unbeknown to everyone else, he has spent years digging a tunnel concealed behind a poster in his cell to facilitate his escape.
The Shawshank Redemption is a tale of endurance, friendship, and above all, hope. By the end of the movie, you’ll be left with the feeling that “Hope is a good thing.”
It’s a Wonderful Life
Bank worker George Bailey feels life as he knows it is about to fall apart around him after a substantial amount of money has gone missing. With his fears overwhelming him, Bailey starts to feel his only way out is suicide, until an Angel shows him what life would be like for others had he never existed.
This film shows us that we all have purpose, even if we might lack direction at times. It also demonstrates the power of friendship, family, love, community, and the importance of counting our blessings.
Remember the Titans
In another true story, Denzel Washington plays Herman Boone, who must overcome the challenges of racial inequality. Boone is announced as the football coach for a recently integrated mixed race school, and is tasked with bringing the team together, regardless of their backgrounds, and the racial tension surrounding the school.
The film’s main message is how teamwork can help us all triumph, and shows that despite our differences, we still have plenty in common. We work best when we work together. Remember the Titans is one of the best sports movies with a message of all time.
