Our Film Figure Spotlight: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

“Success is not important to me, nor are power or money. If the script feels good, then I’m in. It’s that simple.” – Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Leonard Gordon-Levitt is an American actor, director, producer, and writer. As a child star, he appeared in the films A River Runs Through ItAngels in the OutfieldBeethoven, and 10 Things I Hate About You, and as Tommy Solomon in the TV series 3rd Rock from the Sun.

He took a break from acting to study at Columbia University, but dropped out in 2004 to pursue acting again. He has since starred in (500) Days of SummerInception50/50Premium RushThe Dark Knight RisesBrick, and Looper, and also appeared in The LookoutManicLincolnMysterious Skin, and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. In 2013, he wrote, directed and starred in the comedy film Don Jon, and will appear in the sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For as Johnny. He founded the online production company hitRECord in 2004.

When I was younger, I remember watching Angel In The Outfield and enjoying the child star, but now – he is one of my favorite actors. Even watching 10 Things I Hate About You in my Shakespeare class in high school, I never would have thought that the lanky character played by Joseph Gordon Levitt would truly evolve into something amazing. He was a fun character addition to the TV series 3rd Rock From the Sun — but really jumped over the wall with films like Brick!  And it just got better and better.

JGL isn’t just an actor-former-child-star, he is an inspiration and a voice. In 2004, Joe put together hitRECord and by 2013 it has become a massive community and company! It has become a hub for collaboration, events, communication, and sharing.
