Reese Witherspoon is a star on the screen. Having risen through the ranks of childhood acting all through the Man in the Moon at age 14 and to more mature performances, the 40-year old actress continues to deliver great performances in her roles. She has been nominated for many awards through the years and won an Academy Award in 2006 for her riveting portrayal of June Carter Cash. Here are her best roles over the years.



Headlining yet the academy award nominated movie, Wild, in 2014 in a sensational portrayal of real-life novelist Cheryl Strayed, Witherspoon earned her second Oscar nomination as a lead actress. The film is based on Cheryl Strayed’s memoir Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. Witherspoon delivers a great performance of a woman brought to the edge of emotional destruction by the loss of her mother and marriage and hence embarks on a highly self-destructive path. Finally, after getting an epiphany, she finds that her only path to redemption is through an outdoor experience; a hike on the Pacific Crest Trail.

WKTLThe biographical movie that follows the life of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash was a great hit and was nominated for five Academy Awards. Reese Witherspoon’s sensitive portrayal of June Carter Cash won her the best actress award. In the romantic drama where Reese together with Joachim Phoenix who plays the role of Johnny Cash, loses herself in the role completely perfectly depicting the troubled girl who fell in love with the country music star and proceeded to engage in a romantic liaison that lasted 40 years. She cinches the mixed emotions June felt towards Johnny’s life and his addictions and is frank in her portrayal of the down-to-earth, loving and strong character of June Carter Cash.


In 1998, Reese Witherspoon showed promise with her performance in the fantasy comedy drama, Pleasantville. Together with her brother David (portrayed by Tobby Macguire) Reese Witherspoon’s character, Jennifer, escape real life into a TV program where she brightens up things in the drab world of the program’s characters.


Legally Blonde

LegallblondeIn Legally Blonde, Reese Witherspoon plays the role of Elle Woods who suffers the humiliation of being dumped by her boyfriend for being dumb. She decides to gain composure and dignity back by following him to law school and helping out as a lawyer and hence proving her worth against the snobs who underestimated her. She portrays the humiliation and struggles to gain back her dignity perfectly making the romantic comedy a smashing hit with a distinct lead.
